The use of critical thinking in teaching grammar and vocabulary.

Critical thinking helps us to see more clearly what we know and what we need to know. It includes the ability to engage in independent thinking. When we think in a critical way , we can logically understand the connections between the ideas that we have. We also are able to solve problems in a systematic way. Grammar and vocabulary lessons are two of the most important to be teached and learned by the students. According to teaching vocabulary through critical thinking I can say that critical thinking takes that concept go further. We should know the relation a word has with other words. For example, one may ask themself which words belong together and make a list of those which fit with one another. So, when it comes to the grouping of words that fit together students start to think critically in order to make a distinction from other ones. In this case the lesson is no longer about memorisation but it is about remembering such words and use them after an activity.  One activity...

How has technology changed education?

Image
As we know technology has brought radical changes in almost all areas of life and education does not lag behind. Education is a crucial part of our lives, existing since the beginning of it and for sure it has not been as it is today. When students wanted to get information about something, they searched for it  in different books, which took them a lot of time. They did so because it was the only way; since they had not access in technology devices. Today it is more easier , with only one click thay have ready whatever they are looking for. It does not require too much effort and it is not a waste of time. When a student does not understand something , does not have to go and ask for the teacher, he/she can write an email asking them for what they do not understand. Students can take the advantage to ask their professor questions at any time , rather than waiting for the next class , when the question is no longer fresh in their minds. On the other hand students and teachers do no...

Constructivism and DDD-E model

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. This week's project is about constructivism and ddd-e model. Constructivism is a theory in eduaction based on observation and scientific study; observing how people learn. We all know that teaching has changed a lot during this years. If a teacher wants his/her teaching be effective, it should be based in some good learning theories. It is important to stress that learning is an active process,  which means that you should totally engage on what you are learning through experimet or real-world problem solving. In this case knowledge is shared between teachers and students. Teachers have the duty to teach to students different subjects and to do exercises in order to be more easier for them to understand what they are learning, so in a way or another they share knowledge. But  there are not only teachers who share knowledge,  students also do the same thing by learning and getting new information. In this way they share that knowl...

Multimedia, Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences and Cooperative Learning

Image
Hi everyone, hope you are doing well. As this week's topic was about the use of multimedia , Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences and Cooperative Learning , I want to take them one by one. We all know that interest in technology education is raising day by day, especially during this last weeks where we can only communicate with one another online. There are a lot of benefits of multimedia learning. We can mention'  a deeper understanding'. We can make relationships between verbal and visual representations and it is easier for us to remember and understand what we are learning in a better way. As teaching deals with human mind it means that it is important to study different kinds of intelligences. This theory can be used for each subject and at any level. Each student comes to the class as an individual and is not forced to think in the same way as others do. Each of them share their own ideas and that is what makes them different and special from each other....
